Bald cypress in Boston waters - is it possible?

Well, this is another stupid thread about plant hardiness.

And question is, well, about baldcypress - can it grow in water in climate like, say, in Boston, facing ice cover in winter? And even more - can it reproduce here?

I grew them when I lived in Ontario, Canada so I see no issues for you.

Well, did you grow them in water or on ground?

In a very wet area that had the water table a few inches down. Experienced flooding in spring.  So Technically in the ground but lots of moisture. I also had dawn redwood in the area too.

Bald cypress is cold hardy to about zone 4b. The only reason why this tree is native to the Southeastern U.S and not farther north or inland is due to the fact that seedlings aren't as hardy as mature specimens. If the seedlings had a stronger cold tolerance, this tree would be found throughout almost all of eastern North America.
