I had it in 5a, no protection and survived the coldest winter I ever experienced.

How cold it exactly was?

Sorry for asking, where it was?

Near Erin, Ontario, Canada.

We had the coldest February on record one year I lived there.  Daytime highs -15 to -25C, with nights down to -35C (maybe more).  The snow was especially deep that year so the small tree would've been completely covered so that may have helped.  Probably spent 90 days in a row below freezing that year.  Like I said the coldest winter I've ever experienced.  Typically winter temps swing 5 degrees either side of zero.
