4WD excursion today on Nuku Hiva from Taioha’e to Taipivai, Tohua Koueva archaeological site, Hatiheu, and as far as Aakapa yielded several mature Pelagodoxa henryana in habitat. Photos below:

We saw two more in habitat prior to seeing this one.

The scene at Hatiheu where we had lunch and a break:

Returning via Taipivai we noted at least a dozen or more specimens in gardens, giving us hope this rare palm is secure on its native island

Agree. That's a stunning-looking palm! Imagine being able to see a Pelagodoxa in it's natural habitat.

This really gives me a different appreciation for my recently planted specimen.  Thank you.  Looks like an awesome adventure.  Who is your guide (I'm assuming) and did he give you that seed for keeps? :innocent::winkie:

The guide’s name is William, and the seed, picked up from the ground, was past its expiration date.

There is good seed to be found on the Big Island if you check around.

Kim,

Thank you for posting!

My wife and I have spent three weeks for our honeymoon in Tahiti. Unfortunately I wasn't into palms at that time...:crying:

I got to convince her to go there again for an anniversary (or so) :D

best regards from Okinawa -

Lars

Ah - the South Pacific - my latest favorite place on Earth. So many islands, so little time - but trying.
