A little epiphyte growing on the trunk too which appears to be a fern of some sort.  If I had unlimited space I would consider growing more of these large green Encephalartos species, but have to be more selective on my small plots.  I've indulged by dedicated some significant space to a few of the big species but not E hildebrandtii.  I believe these are pretty quick growers like E gratus and a few others.  How old is the specimen pictured to develop that trunk?

I believe this is a very old specimen at Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens, which commenced around 1947. Not sure it is that old but it is moving towards maturity!

I have two big ones from PT member ChuckG, they are really great cycads!  Here's the larger one, it has some yellowed leaves due to sunburn when I planted it last summer.  It hasn't flushed yet, but the offset hidden on the fence side flushed in November.  I may give it a little fertilizer kick once there is no chance of a frost.
