I do not disagree. There has been much discussion on the Board about Ficus benjamin. In this area virtually all of the specimens are barbered. This is an extreme example.

Yeah ( sighs a bit ), lol... nothing brings me to a rolling boil faster than seeing a yard full of plants sliced 'n diced into un-natural shapes,.. have never understood whats so appealing about it.. or the whole english garden style hee haw.. A little pinching every so often to keep wild things a bit less wild, sure.. but.. 

Different strokes for different folks i guess.. Not in my yard / cash emptied from my pockets though.. Come to my yard with shears,  i'll release the hounds.. B):D

I think a more positive word to describe this is "sculpted" create or represent something by carving,casting, or other shaping techniques.

I believe Waykool explains the juxtaposition of “shaped” as in the upcoming first photo of Sleepy Hollow vs barbered in the second two shots that follow. I have my preference but to each his own:
