Who has thought ever of guerilla pollination?

We all have heard of or even commit ourselves guerilla planting. But if one is so daring, why not doing also the less radical of hand pollinating not own plants? This idea has crossed my mind yesterday, after I had discovered an interesting, fruiting Phoenix dactylifera in the front yard of a condo in Athens. Shape, color, size and taste ( like apple although still immature) of dates make me suspect it must be of the Barhi cultivar, one that ripens fruits in autumn, a very important feature for not hot, desert areas. But all fruits are not pollinated and thus far from maturity, as lack of pollination almost always causes problems to the ripening process of dates here. So I thought to dust some pollen from my own date palms, next time this plant blooms. Has anyone done anything similar reg any kind of palm?

I guess my only thought is what will you say to the owner if you get caught?

I am also mentally designing a powder gun so you can do drive-bys.

I'd say do it.  I've not considered something like this before but why not help the tree produce some good fruit with viable seed?

You will have to register as a palm sex offender.  (I hope this post doesn't cost me any reputation points.)

I've actually sent "Dear Palm Owner" letters to two addresses in Burlingame, which have fruiting Butias facing the street, to inquire whether they would consider any hybridization experiments.  Neither replied.
