Lady Palm transplanted....

......I may have screwed up. She was in the same pot for 6 years. The original pot was narrow and very tall. For the life of me I could not find a similar larger pot so had to go with what I could find. The problem was to fit in the new pot I had to remove about 10% of the bottom of the root ball. Have I done a major bad? All the new suckers have come up in the last 6 months so for the most part always has been a very healthy plant. If I have done damage any suggestions on how I might mitigate that damage? Also would I be correct in assuming the older growth will be what is impacted? I wouldn’t mind the lower growth to catch up to thicken up the overall look and match the new pot. 14013CD4-40D8-4F2F-80F1-F181C798D4FC.thumb.jpeg.2c4cb25a88db4075e91f472bc46c3e30.jpeg

Late this (Texas) summer I separated my lady palm. While cutting the suckers from the main plant and trimming the roots, I noticed that the suckers seemed to grow a ways down below the surface, then made a u-turn to go upwards and connect to the main plant. I had to be careful not to cut the sucker too far up as doing so would have removed too much of the root system.

Did you just make a straight cut across the bottom of the root ball? Or did you make selective cuts? You're probably fine, but I feel like making a cut around where "bad" points to might be removing too much of the root system and causing the sucker that was removed from the main plant to die. It doesn't sound like you took a whole lot off tho. It'll probably be fine! I separated mine in late august, and they're already pushing up new growth.

Thanks rabblemire. Ya I cut right across the bottom. lady Palms send roots straight to the bottom of the pot so ya what got trimmed off was the thick coarse roots. There has not even been a slight wilt and she seems happy but then again it’s only been 5 days. Fingers crossed.  And ya I noticed the suckers grow in a loopy loop fashion.
