Foxtail brown tips

Hey everyone. My foxtail is being borded at my dads house. He has done a great job. Looking at this pic of this Frond. Is this under watering for this guy? It’s in a well lit spot as you can see.

What is the humidity at his house? Watering won't make up for low humidity. Also, might he be overwatering? How well draining is the potting medium? Does the pot sit in a tray of water constantly?

The soil is wood chips coco coir and perlite. The Palm never sits in water. But my dads house is dry but that has never seems to harm my foxtails before. Soil is moist not soggy

I studied the photo again and see at least 3 completely brown leaves. I wonder more about them than a few brown tips, although brown leaves have to start somewhere. Brown tips can be a symptom of low humidity. Does no one trim the leaves after they dry? Have you check for spider mites? A few close-up photos in good lighting might help us diagnose any problems.

Not sure if anything that I'm about to tell you will help you, but here goes:  I have a Foxtail palm a tad larger than yours. I have had it for about a year and a half. Mine is also growing in a pot. It stays outside except on nights that get below 40F. So about 10-20 nights a year its inside. In Houston it is always wet and humid especially in the winter. Last December I started to see the same thing on my palm. After 2 or 3 fronds died I started researching. From what I found it seemed that due to the stress of the cooler weather the palms immune system was weak. In my case with lots of cold rain it was most likely brown spot mold. So I sprayed the heck out of it with fungicide and clipped the dead fronds off and the dying fronds were clipped right at the base of bad tissue and healthy tissue. Then I sprayed fungicide once a week. It seemed to work because the die back of fronds stopped immediately.

This summer after a prolonged period of rain a frond on my Foxtail started to die back. Once again I cut the frond at the base of healthy tissue and sprayed it down with copper fungicide. Four months later the remainder of that affected frond is still green and on the tree.

Your Foxtail might be stressed for different reasons with a different affliction but I wanted to share what worked for me. Also I thought that these palms are from a fairly dry part of Australia where it gets very hot (low humidity), so I wouldn't think that low humidity would bother them too much. Mine always seem to get cranky when we get long bouts of rain (high humidity). Either way good luck!

Thank you. I find humidity doesn’t effect them much as well. I will have my dad make sure the soil is right moisture level and temp wise we can only do so much. Now my foxtail seedlings are 1.5 feet tall and nothing hurts them. I wonder if my Palm has some root issues when I bought it and with the cooler temps it’s not happy

Ricky, my foxtail is having the same issue after coming inside.

Did you ever figure out the problem/solution?

Thanks

Yes it lost one frond but then picked up and was fine after that. There’s a balcony out the door so when we have a day in the pluses we take it outside and give it a thorough watering abs drain before coming back in
