Laccospadix problem and surgery !
I have several Laccospadix palms, both in-ground and in pots. They are usually trouble free, slow but steady growers. One potted 5-gallon plant lost its spear leaf. After a long period of waiting for a replacement I decided to operate.
This palm had established so many offset growing points that it got trapped and constricted within the older leafbases. After surgery I found this lump of new growth, I hope that this drastic trimming will allow normal growth to resume. After the phot
After closer inspection I recognized that the growth point had been distorted 360 degrees. I broke off this deformity, but nothing has begun to emerge from the lower remnant. Therefore I have concluded that too much meristem was removed and that the main stem will not recover. (See second image of 360 degree twist)
