I have several Laccospadix palms, both in-ground and in pots. They are usually trouble free, slow but steady growers. One potted 5-gallon plant lost its spear leaf. After a long period of waiting for a replacement I decided to operate.

After closer inspection I recognized that the growth point had been distorted 360 degrees. I broke off this deformity, but nothing has begun to emerge from the lower remnant. Therefore I have concluded that too much meristem was removed and that the main stem will not recover. (See second image of 360 degree twist)
This is still a healthy palm with two strong growing stems, and two lesser ones for a total of 4 stems. My garden is always too cluttered, yet I am unable to resist the ac
