Kentiopsis oliviformis

Just wanted to share a few pictures that highlight my Kenti-O. I am constantly taking pictures of my palms as I am sure most of you do. Sometimes I like the way the pictures come out and want to share them. I really liked the  natural lighting in the first three pics.

It is finally starting to show a little growth for me.

This new leaf detail pic shows just how much yellow the new leaf openings have before turning into their glaucas blue.

Nice palms &  carpet grass,  look nice

our grass cover is full of leeches, :o

The artificial turf is definitely the right choice for me in this situation. Trying to maintain real grass around all the trees I have in this area would be a pain. I like the trees on a drip system. I don’t want them watered with a sprinkler system which is what would happen if I had real grass. My front yard trees get watered with a sprinkler system and I’m hoping to change that soon too.

Beautiful palms... The white rocks (Quartz ?) set them off nicely...

Butch

Thanks. Yes. If I remember correctly the rocks are “Palomino Quartz”.

Greg, you have to get a couple more hobbies, you are way too O/C with your yard,  :-)

Cheers Steve

It is not dead, it is just senescence.

Perhaps for a “yard” - but not for the “Palm museum” effect he’s going for. Though unusual, I like how the evenly spaced palm circles invite exploration, and make it very clear that the palms are number one priority in this space (“Welcome to my yard... now which palm would you like to talk about first?”).

Speaking of palms, what’s the name of the stunner in the back right corner of this photo? I have a guess, but thought I’d confirm. My overall favorite is your Dypsis leptocheilos.... but that’s always my favorite

Haha! I can see how the older photos would appear that way especially with the artificial turf. The original plan in my yard as a casual palm enthusiast was to just plant the perimeter of the yard and leave the middle open for my kids to run around the yard. But phase 2 set in and the yard beat out my kids as I put a fire pit in the center of the yard and added more palms around it. It is now filling in a bit.

I think you are talking about the “Foxy Lady” which has grown up fast. It is in the front right corner of the pic below and you can see the Kentiopsis behind it. If you saw the yard in person trust me it does not look so “pristine” like it did when the palms were much smaller. My thoughts were to roughly evenly space out the palms and fill in with cycads and other plants. The palms serve as a good base.

Hey, I got that one right! (thought it might be a foxy lady)

I LOVE the addition of colors... using burgandy & purple/black accents with the green foliage is my favorite color combo. Thanks for sharing the yard pics!

I can't compete with the pictures of the beauties posted in this topic, but I do have some baby Kentiopsis oliviformis of my own which I bought late last summer and spent much of the winter on my kitchen window ledge, coming out on warm days to soak up some sun.  They pretty much can stay outside now as the chilliest nights are passing and days are regularly into the upper 60's and 70's.

Hopefully this coming Spring and Summer they will open up some new leaves - they are slow as juveniles but mine seen happy enough.

They do tend to be a bit slow when young, but once they hit trunking size these go right up.  My biggest one was planted as a 7 gallon at the end of 2010 and can be seen in a photo from inside the yard as well as from the side street on the other side of the wall.  You can really see how upright they hold their crowns once they hold some trunk in both photos
