Chamaedorea 'Soledad'

Recommended Posts

Hello to all,   I encountered this palm at Rancho Soledad nursery.  The sales person, Jessie, was unsure about the parentage.  Don Hodel's book does not address this hybrid.  Does anyone have information about this hybrid ?   Thanks !

Darold,

Years ago, I saw a palm listed as "Veitchia soledad" in a big box store which was actually nothing more than V. arecina. I'm not sure how they go about naming their palms. Like you, I assumed it was a hybrid, which it was not,at least as far as I could tell.

Hello Darold

I have  Chamaedorea 'Soledad', they are still very small, and so far I see no difference with chamaedorea radicalis tree forms

My guess would be perhaps something like Chamaedorea radicalis  x C. glaucifolia.  I have a good group of tree form radicalis,  but this 'Soledad' seems different.

I've had mine for over 20 years and they are prolific. Darold's guess is as good as any and I tend to agree. Even the folks who were around RSN back in the day couldn't really give a definitive answer.
