Moving in with a container ranch

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to share a happy moment.  I'm moving into a Mid-Century Ranch with my awesome lady and she's cool with my container ranch.  Decided to make sure she understood what she was getting into by putting all my bigger palms (save for a few still on the porch) in our new Library.  Gotta love moving from a north-facing apartment into a house with floor-to-ceiling East windows!  (now complete with red cat-bench from which to watch the bird & squirrel channel)

Now to find space for all the big stuff still on the patio and all the seedlings!

Congratulations on your move from an apt. to a house. Your palms really set the scene of that great view. I grew up in a brick Mid-Century Modern house that had panoramic plate glass windows in the living room and dining room. Keep us posted as your container garden progresses.

Looks like you saved some good ones!  :)  Good lighting makes a big difference.  I'm amazed at how much better my container seedlings are doing at my former work office vs. the ones on my back patio at home.  I was fortunate that the current resident of the office allowed me to keep my plants there when I was kicked out, er, moved to a different office with no window. Congrats on your new home!

  • 1 month later...

We're 2 months on with all these wonderful East windows.  All the morning sun!  (obviously everything has been pulled in for the winter as well).

I've never seen some of these permanent indoor palms so green and vibrant!

What a great way to banish the winter blues! Your plants look great.

Hello my fellow Nebraskan

Glad to hear you found a good woman that will welcome? put up with? your palm hobby.  Mine does not.....but  I also don't care.

I keep telling her I don't gamble, or go to strip clubs to blow my money. Plus, even she admits I've come to know...and meet some pretty cool people from around the country because of my pal tree hobby.

Just tell her if one butts up against the ceiling she either gets a new, bigger house; or you'll donate it in her name to Lauritzen Gardens!
