Tricks before bringing in palms

Hi everyone,

October is here and I’m starting to think about bringing in my plants soon.  I was just wondering if you have any tricks before bringing them in.  Do you apply hydrogen peroxide, neem oil, copper fungicide?  I kept a few palms in the house last winter giving them some fish emulsion once in a while but this year my collection has grown quite a bit and I have some more tropical z10-11 palms.  Any tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

One thing i do is hose them off top to bottom pretty aggressively to get any critters off best I can. I usually spray insecticide soap on them after I bring them In. I also put ant traps near by make sure to get under the leaves. We will see how well my tactics work this year with 70 percent humidity in my palm room

Ive been thinking about the same. While I probably won't have to bring much in until late November or December at some point, I have been thinking that once the weather cools off a bit (highs in the 70s) I will just blast everything with neem or a 3in1 like fungicide 3 along with a DE powder topping of the soil.

I think if I do this 2-3 times on a 7 day schedule that should eliminate pests for the winter.

Usually I will take a hose sprayer and mix neem oil concentrate, spinosad, and insecticidal soap together and use that to control pretty much anything.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just shake them all vigorously and use a broom from bottom to top to "encourage" all the stowaways to beat feet; also gets all the spiderwebs off.  Still had a few carry overs, but so far no problems.  Hoping a least a few of them had hidden wolf spiders at the base, I need some natural pest deterrent in my floor vents...
