My coconut is finally starting to get a trunk

Hi all,

I think my coconut is starting to get a trunk. Before and after shots. First one is from today. The second is from September 1, 2016. It is the earliest pic I can find of it. I must have planted it around that time. Don’t mind my kids’ playhouse which was blown against the fence in a storm :winkie:

The next pics are from today.

Wonderful! It's got a nice lean to it.

I can even see some roots. Is it a malayan dwarf?

I see the pic from 2016, how old do you think it was back then?  Two years old? Do you recall if it was planted early 2016?

Here again, congratulations. Its spectacular!

Hi Alex,

I’m not sure exactly when I planted it but it was just one of those big box store sprouted  coconuts and only had a few strap leaves.  I don’t think it had been in the ground that long before my kids’ playhouse almost took it out. Also your guess is as good as mine as to what variety it is other some kind of ‘green’ variety.

Interesting thing about this palm is that it had a lean that way right out of the coconut and it has stayed true to that lean. Unfortunately it will probably curve over the fence over my neighbors yard eventually. If they want me to remove it, I will have to

I am 99% sure it is a Green Malayan Dwarf.

Just a little update on this one. It is putting out some flower spathes for the first time. Also I never imagined how large it would get. Probably way too big for where it is. Provided we don’t get any bad freezes this winter, how long will it be until there are mature edible coconuts on this tree?
