Hello, buy this page 2 years ago for Butia Odorata, but now you see it on the hook list.
I read that this is available for Juabea and its hybrids.
do I have to hook Butia or do I hope I have a hybrid?
In addition, the list ended with one segment and not two as Butia members.

First question where did you get this palm from and at what size ? It does actually looks more like JxB fronds then a normal Odorata. The hooks usually show up at a really young size of JxB tho

The palm tree was purchased from a local nursery but was shipped from Italy.
The old leaves have no hooks just the last 2 and the new ones are coming out right now.
Is it possible to confuse the seed with that of ordinary Butia?

The hooks can be a sign of boron deficiency.

I'm also starting to think that climate can be a factor as well. I have purchased palms that have had hooks from the west coast only to see them disappear after a couple new spears have grown out while in a new climate. (Perhaps arid vs/ humid)  . I have a hybrid that still has hooks on it but the newest emerging spear, zero.

I would venture to guess you have a pure butia.
