Sylvester Palm problems

Recommended Posts

I have a Sylvester Palm that was transplanted about 15 months ago in Houston.  The fronds coming out right now are shorter than the others and some have not opened completely.  What do I need to treat it with?  Any help would be appreciated.

I think overall the palm looks pretty healthy.  I have three of them and the fronds do take a while to reach their full length. Also the difference in frond length could be do to it being in a different environment. A lot of palms grow longer fronds if they’re in a shady area and shorter in full sun. If the fronds aren’t opening all the way that could be a problem, but that wasn’t visible in the pictures. Are you fertilizing it?

Agree completely with this assessment.

I bought a couple of P. sylvestris that were grown in filtered light and planted them out in full sun. All new leaves are shorter (and somewhat denser) than the old ones and the plants are super happy. Over time the new leaves do get longer as the palm grows. If they are not opening, it might need more water. Can't tell from the photos if there are any signs of nutrient deficiency.
