What Caryota

PalmsZA

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Attached is a pic of a Caryota that is growing near to my house. Its not C.urens (most common Caryota planted here). It is in a garden that must have been a palm-nuts at some stage because there are some lovely large less common palms planted out. This poor plant is suffering from drought and is in a very exposed location at the top of a hill. I have seen 10 or so more of these in other neighborhoods so they must have been available 15-20 years ago.

Thanks

Dennis

Sorry I missed this!

Looks like a C. gigas, or possibly no.

Give us a closeup of the trunk and we'll know better.  Nos and giggies are colored differently.

For some reason C. no popped into my mind due to the shape of the crown. On the other hand I'm the guy who mistook a small Wodyetia that was given to him for a C. mitis. So at this point, I'd have to say, "listen to Dave"...

My thought is Caryota no as well, due to the crown shape.
