Oz Native palms at Mt Coot-tha botanical Gardens, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Well, I've been giving the camera a bit of a workout lately...

Spent yesterday strolling around Mount Coot-tha Botanical Gardens with FM Wal...we only covered a third of it, but still managed to lose 3 hours immersed in palmy goodness! Here are some photos from the Australian Native section of the gardens...they have a fair selection of native species there...missing all of the W.A and a lot of the Top End N.T species, plus no Calamus, however it is still a good collection.

The gardens are set on the hillsides at Mount Coot-tha and have been landscaped with artificial watercourses to emulate a rainforest environment, along with a more open woodland area for Savannah type palms such as some of the Livistona spp

Here is a different form of Ptychosperma elegans with narrow leaflets and more recurved leaves...

Livistona muelleri is a great palm, not too large so perfect for the home harden, and very attractive with its stiff leaves...

Wow, that Livistona in the first photo looks just like a Sabal (first photo of second post in this thread).

Picked a bag full of seeds today at 1770 of this palm. Love the drooping frons.  One of the best gardens Mt Cootha!
