My grandma has been growing a few of these for a while.  Are they Blue Agave (Agave tequiliana)?  They can certainly tolerate no care here in a pot, but look way better since I have been giving ample water and natrients.

Agave Desmettiana, it’s a more tropical agave. It doesn’t handle freezes very well, it will burn/melt but usually recovers quickly. It grows fast and offsets prolifically.

Thank you Meangreen94z.  It should continue to do well here, as we get only have temperatures below 30F about every 3 years these days.  I will be sure to protect it when it does though.

Yep, I have several variegated Agave Desmettiana.  Some of the pure blue-green ones have the small teeth on the edge, some are almost entirely smooth except for the terminal spike.  Mine burn a bit with every frost, but the ones that get AM sun are typically better off.  Ironically the ones in some shade (which you would think have some frost protection) burn worse.
