Reedy Lake (Frostproof, Florida) coconut palms

This morning I was plotting a road route on Google map from Lake Placid, Florida to a point in Lake Wales, Florida, where I have to drive to this afternoon. After I found my destination I just decided to check the south and southeast sides of some lakes as I scrolled the map back down to Lake Placid -- it was then I saw these relatively tall coconut palms growing close to Reedy Lake, located on the east side of Frostproof, Florida.

I found coconut palms growing at two locations. One location was at Lake Reedy Lodging (at approximately 27.73 N latitude). The other was at a residential home near by to the east. Below are some Google screen grabs I made showing these palms. The street views were taken in January of 2008.

I surmise all but one of these coconut palms were killed by the freezes of 2010. But at the Lake Reedy Lodging, it appears one coconut palm survived, and this is the palm on the east side (right side) of the lodge growing with some trees around it.

Photos 1 and 2 shows the coconut palms at Reedy Lake Lodging in January of 2008. Photo 3 is a Google aerial view which shows all the coconut palms, except the one to the east of the lodge, are gone.

Photo 4 shows the two smaller coconut palms growing about 1/4 mile down the road, to the east of the lodge.

I have no idea, but would be interested to know is,  when these coconut palms were planted, and how big they were when planted.

I was in that area last year around this time, but didn't take notice to whether they were still alive or not.  Brings back old memories.  As far as when they were planted, I'm unsure myself.

Those are beautiful.  If you take away the coconut palms themselves, the rest of the scenes certainly do not look like coconut country (looks like somewhere much further north).  Granted, the shots were taken in winter.
