Hello everyone,

I've been struggling with this form of illness in some of my palms for some time now.

As you can see in the pictures, it leaves damaged spots on my seedlings. It affected only some species, preferably Copernicia, but also Butia and few other seedlings.

On some of them, really tiny white spots can be seen, so I was thinking that it might be a kind of mite. I had applied a spray with Pongamia pinnata extract, which helped only for a short period of time and then the problem was back, so I repeated it few times with the same outcome.

Do you have any experience with this kind of pest? What can it be? Any tips how to eliminate it, or atleast inhibit their spreading? I am afraid that it will slowly affect all my other seedlings.

Thank you!

Ondra

Some of the photos make me think of a fungus, some sort of look like a nitrogen deficiency.  Possibly give them a little bit of Osmocote or similar slow release fertilizer?  Here's my notes on nitrogen:

"Older fronds get translucent yellow/orange or dead spots on leaves, especially at the tips. Sometimes tips are curled or frizzled.  Always starts at tips of oldest leaves, moving inwards."

I have a few seedlings that look the same as your second picture. They get real pale yellow and brown on the tips. Since it didn't spread and since all of my seedlings are getting the same treatment with most thriving I thought those were just not meant to make it. Since you are seeing a similar symptom on a more widescale amount I will also be eager to hear other forum members thoughts on what could be happening.

I add Osmocote to all my mixes, so it might be something else, thanks though!

I was getting some of that on my seedlings. I started using 5-1-1 fish emulsion just to lightly aid them. After many months I’m sure your palms will look better
