First year my Dais continifolia in bloom

Recommended Posts

After a few years of growth, my in-ground Dais cotinifolia has finally decided that conditions in my garden (light shade, S-E exposure) are satisfactory enough for it to bloom. It'll probably never look as lush as the ones on this South African site though: http://pza.sanbi.org/dais-cotinifolia

From seed I suspect it would take perhaps 5+ years. I bought mine as a seedling from this nursery: http://www.anniesannuals.com/plants/view/?id=2862 The new leaves are a very dark purplish-red, so it's an attractive plant even out of bloom.

Mike: In this forum, on Nov. 13, 2009, Fastfeat reported that this species grows well in Florida and mentioned http://www.jessedurko.com/ as a possible source.  Good luck!
