Dig and move Hyophorbe verschaffeltii

These are so nice and I mis-planted them under big stuff that’s shading them out I fear.

So thoughts on digging and potting; can I do with a small rootball or do I have to hack off a corner of the continent to move them successfully?

They’re about seven feet tall and about eight inches across the base.

I dug and moved these in July of 2013 Dave.   Here's the pic of them right after transplant. No special care needed.  Just get as much ball as you can.

YIKE

that's ENORMOUS for palms that size. I'm planning on sticking them in large containers before moving them to another location in the ground

Dave, how about if we convert it to smaller numbers for you:  1.5 to 2' deep and 1' radius .  Does that sound better?

Around here they sell palms that size in 5 and 7G pots.  Most of them are barely half full of depleted soil with the roots "stilted" 4 inches above the dirt...and they are still alive.  Maybe they are a bit tougher than a K. O. and not get KO'd?  :D
