I thought sure that I had lost my  cycas cairnsiana, and as a last ditch effort; I moved it into the haworthia section where it would get only filtered light and low and behold, it appears to be flushing

I am totally jazzed, as I really like the shape and color of this Australian wonder

What caused it die back like that ? I have 4 seedlings barely starting to produce fronds.

I think that it was transplant shock. I acquired it in the sping from a friend several hundred kilometers to the south and planted it in a large communal planter with several other plants, where it received only filtered sunlight. It had three or four nice fronds at the time. I think that the soil mixture in that pot was not to it's liking, drying out too fast and not really getting thoroughly wet. I am remixing the soil in that planter in hopes that the other plants, which never really seemed to be comfortable there, will fare better.
