Dypsis ovobontsira in FL

Anyone else having luck with this species in FL ?  Also curious how it's growing for people in CA.   It seems like a winner.

Got some pics of my biggest D. Ovo opening its colored new leaf.  This plant in around 7 foot tall and it definitely picked up speed since I planted in full sun a few years back from a 3gal.
I have 2 others in pots that were kept in filtered light / moderate shade and they are only about 2-3 ft tall.

Even though it's handling the sun I think I'm going to plant a King or Foxtail next to it for at least some protection from future frosts.

Great looking palm, Todd!  How fast would you rate it?

Mine in California is still quite small.  Maybe 3 leaves/year growth.  Looking a little beat up on the last days of this last winter, but it was opening a new leaf (3/18/2019).  Maybe I'll have something more interesting to report in a couple more years.

I throw these in the "Hedyscepe complex".. trademarked by Dypsis Dean and myself ..in that random ones seem to thrive and oh too many die. No real rhyme or reason which are the decent growing ones, or what condition them seem to do best in.

Not to mention I can think of two, probably three very different types of palms sold under the ovobontsira name.. (My above statement is on the current one..- "dark mealybug" came in originally as ovobontsira and it's another order of difficulty to grow too)

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Yeah it's strange how some are just slugs and others have decent growth.    I haven't even fertilized this one either haha, but I have been heavily watering it.
It seems to grow about the same speed as Carlsmithii if the plant doesn't choose to be a slug.
