Bismarkia seed fail

Recommended Posts

Today I checked my baggy full of Bismarck seeds and found 2 that have germinated and the radical is going down to the soil. My fail was somehow in taking it out of the bag and getting it ready to put in a community pot. Half of the radical broke off.

So for all you pros out there. Is this seed a goner? I put it back in the baggy to help. I know more will pop but I hate killing anything unless it’s a weed

Bismarckia are quite root sensitive and it’s probably a goner. Best to move them into individual pots as soon as the pop a tap root.

That’s what I have just done because shuffling them around the bag can easily damage. Thanks

Rather than bag them, consider starting each seed in its own (very) deep pot - at least 40 cm. I use Steuwe & Sons 14" deep treepots. Germinated Bismarckia seeds can't handle any rough treatment.
