PSSC MAY MEETING
SATURDAY, MAY 18,2019
TWO GARDENS IN SAN DIEGO

Our May Meeting of the PSSC will be in northern San Diego county in the towns of Vista and
Encinitas. We will be visiting two gardens of members of our Society. This will be a potluck meeting,
so bring a nice dish to share with others. A Board Meeting will proceed the meeting at the first
garden at 9:30 AM. An auction and raffle will end the meeting at the second garden. As there will
probably be lots of sun, remember to wear appropriate clothing and bring a hat for sun protection.
10:30 AM: ARRIVE EHRLICH GARDEN‚ We will start at the garden of Victor and Angelina Ehrlich
at 210 Richard Ct, Oceanside, CA 92056. Phone: (760) 295-7767.

To pursue his palm interests, Victor moved from Northern California and set roots in warmer
Oceanside in 2004. Immediately he began hardscape improvements and now has almost 125
species of palms. These include many Brahea, Livistona, Phoenix, Pritchardia, Sabal and 26 other
genera. The garden is immaculate, labeled and has nice companion plants. It is a good example of
what palms can do in about 15 years in the ground.

DIRECTIONS: From north or south on Freeway 5 go east on Freeway 78 and go east. Exit at
Melrose Drive going north. After you pass Oceanside Boulevard, turn right at the second
traffic light (Sagewood Dr.), turn left after one block at Willowbrook Dr. and turn right at the
first street which is Richard Court. The garden is on the left at 210 Richard Court. It may be best
to park on Willowbrook Dr. because Richard Ct. may be crowded with cars.

GARDEN NUMBER TWO at the home of Mark and Val Riedler, 3236 Brookside Lane, Encinitas,
CA 92024. This garden was started in late 2003 and also has many palms, cycads, aloes and
bromeliads. The lot is basically clay but 3 feet of sandy loam was imported when the house was
built. This garden is 6 miles from the coast. This garden was last viewed by the PSSC members in
March 2013.

Directions from the Erhlich’s garden to the Riedler garden: Retrace your route to Freeway 5 and
go south. Take Encinitas Blvd exit east. Go approximately 3 miles, turn left on Rancho Santa
Fe Rd. Go 1.1 miles and turn right on Lone Jack Rd. Go 1.1 miles and turn right on Caminito
del Rancho. Go 450 feet and veer left on Brookside Lane. Go left on second street . Parking is
limited to one side of the street. Please obey the posted signs to keep congestion to a minimum.
