Phoenix Dactylifera and Canaresis Old Leaf Bases

I've found a good deal on a 4 ft CT P. Dacty and CIPD.  Both palms have been in pots for probably too long and don't get the care and attention they need.  However, the fronds are growing strong with no signs of stress, and the center spears are great.  My concern is that the old leaf bases can be pulled off by hand.  I'm new to Phoenix palms, so I'm not sure if this is normal or not?  I know Sabals and Washingtonia's hold on tight for several years, but then fall off in the same manner.  Is this normal for Phoenix?  Should I be concerned?

Can you post few photos of the CIDP in discussion ? It would be much easier to know how your palm is..Most of the phoenix are not self cleaning. So you can trim of the old and dried leaves using a pruner.

Love,

Kris.

This is all I have.    Only took one of the dactylifera.  I could pull some of the old fronds off by hand.

Looks ok to me,and you can use pruning saw or Garden Hedge/Tree Lopper and always wear garden gloves and protection for the eyes.

Thanks!  So no concerns that the remaining "boots" on the trunk come off so easily?  Again, new to Phoenix so I'm not sure if this is normal like it can be on Sabals and Washingtonias.

Those leaf boots look pretty old so probably not surprising that some pull off fairly easily.  If I were you I would check the rootball.  I bought a slightly smaller dacty a few years ago and put it in the ground.  When I moved to a new house I decided to dig it up and take it with me and that's when I noticed that it had minimal roots but spear and newest leaves still looked healthy.  It did not take the transplant very well and slowly declined pushing only 1 new leaf in a year's time before I finally took it out.  These are pretty tough palms but mine did not have sufficient roots at time of purchase for it to handle the stress of transplant.
