Casper Curto Garden
7612 Hillmont Drive
Oakland, Ca
May 12, 2019
1-5pm

Persian architect Ali Yazdi built the residence at 7612 Hillmont Drive in 1993. After the owners purchased a neighboring 4000 parcel, the new half-acre site was cleared of dense non-native foliage such as cotoneaster, Scotch broom, and sweet pea. Over 500 linear feet of redwood fencing was constructed along with the installation of primary electrical and water lines.

In 1998 the owners, Daryl Du Charmed and Casper Curto addressed the biggest challenge, how to navigate from the rear of the house to the upper elevation. Only a two-foot wide dirt path connected the areas and the steep incline proved to be a daunting climb. A diagonal timber step design proved to be the best solution.

Horticulturally, neither owner had a specific plan in mind. As both are members of numerous local plant clubs, they began collecting succulents, cacti, bromeliads, tillandsias, and orchids. They are late bloomers when it comes to palms, but they have a greater appreciation of palms having been influenced by the beauty of notable gardens of Don Worth, Darold Petty, Edith Burgstrom, the artistry of Davis Dalbok and their latest luminaire, Jason Dewees.

Driving Directions:
580 is the main corridor. If coming from San Francisco get on 580 East follow signs Hayward / Stockton continue 580 East till Edwards exit right ,pass grammer school on right, continue past the first Hillmont verring to the left down hill one block, Take the first left on Hillmont , pull out so that you can see oncoming traffic, go about 2 blocks . We are on the left side of the road Palms in front .

If coming from the opposite direction take 580 West to Keller, exit left Continue on right side of road, staying parallel with Freeway about a mile or so . at the traffic light just before Freeway entrance West and Mountain View Condos on the right, make a left under Freeway and follow directions as above .
