Ordered Seeds... Not What I Expected!

So I ordered 100 Washingtonia robusta seeds from Amazon around a month ago (It costs like $3). I got the seeds, but they weren't what I was expecting! They came from China and are Trachy seeds! Oh well, lesson learned, haha.

Hey at least there palm seeds! Not the worst palm to get!

That's true! I don't know what species of Trachycarpus they are, I am assuming fortunei, but who knows. I am going to soak them for a few days since I bet they're pretty old.

I wouldn't trust any seeds from China except from Coldplant.com who is an IPS & Palmtalk member. I have bought seeds from a few select sellers in Thailand & Australia who are reputable and know what they are selling. But be aware that if they don't offer phytosanitary certificates - and most don't - you run a risk of US Customs seizing/stealing your seeds. That's happened to me once or twice in dozens of sales so the risk is worth the expense. I also won't pay $5, $10 or up per seed. I'm amazed you got those seeds so cheap from Amazon. They jack up prices astronomically to include their cut of the sale.

You should be able to find dirt cheap Washy or certain Trachy seeds from a US source. Someone here might send you a packet for cost of postage.

Yeah, I didn't know they were coming from China. But at least I got some Trachy seeds, I have no idea what species they are though.

  • 2 weeks later...

When the billions of Washingtonia palms set seed this summer in SoCal I can grab and send them to you. I guess we take them for granted out here...
