Latest frond from Houailou is massive.  Had tons of color too.  Hoping it will be like Meg’s as it matures.

A little more color on the latest leaf to open but still pretty subtle.  It does appear that it is getting closer to forming a trunk though.  Fence is 7' high and I opted to tie up the one frond that was hanging over the walkway so it doesn't get destroyed by foot traffic.

Here is a massive one at the Palmetum of Santa Cruz de Tenerife - I was shocked by how massive these palms are! I could barely fit my arms around the trunk.

Some years back here in So Cal they were hard to source.

Having multiples of the others I was on the fence.

I saw this post... and tracked one down immediately.

Carpoxylon on steroids!

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Whoa Bill, that's a big palm. Looks fantastic, as does most everything else in your garden..

Thanks Bret! At least the "planted" stuff looks good! (Those that have escaped the fate of a gopher!)

It has been a year since my last leaf, this is this years effort. The first wide angle shot is deceptive because the leaf tip is six ft odd off the ground and I was standing on a chair.

For me this has been highly variable colour wise. This year it is quite yellow, last year (bottom of last page) brighter red than some macrocarpa and the year before typical pink salmon.

This species' stunning symmetry and yes, its beauty, colorful or not, is why it is on my must-buy list next time I place a Floribunda order.
