Some, where it appears quarter to maybe half dollar ( maybe slightly bigger ) -sized hail was falling, reminded me of storms i experienced while living i Kansas, with the exception of the wind. Most hail storms i saw there, esp during the spring / summer, approach quietly... No wind, very little or no heavy / any rain.. not much thunder/ lightning.. Unless you're somewhere where you receive alerts, hard to tell one is nearby, until you start hearing it falling. You never forget the sight of looking out a second story window and seeing Ping Pong to Tennis Ball-sized chunks of ice bouncing off the ground / roofs of cars / nearby buildings.. Let alone chasing a storm dropping Grape Fruit-sized hail less than 1/4th of a mile from where you are positioned.. Crazy what kind of damage even small hail can do. Eric Blake, a Meteorologist out of Miami, posted some pretty crazy videos / pictures on his twitter page yesterday. From what i saw in a couple of them, i have no doubts Golf ball, maybe bigger sized hail fell somewhere close to you.. You know, for all the stories i had read about before moving there.. only came close to a Tornado once. Was small, and had lifted off the ground when it's circulation passed near / over where i was. Any time storms were in the area, and i wasn't at work or otherwise occupied, i was on the road, or in the field of the elementary school in our neighborhood with my camera and tripod, sometimes at 12 or 1 am. You DO live in a tornado state! ahahaha A small one took out almost everything in front of my house a couple years ago. Tore 6' tall blue Agave out of the ground and rolled them like tumbleweeds. I know, but we were more talking about those Wizard of OZ gigantic tornadoes, like a mile wide, etc. But yes, we had small tornadoes w/Irma that killed 5 or 6 of my mature palms. Eric in Orlando 4,838 Report post Posted March 29, 2019 Wow, that is crazy. I'm glad we didn't get the hail. I saw video of huge hail in the Cocoa area too. Back in spring of 1992 we had 2 horrific hail storms around here.
