Say-it-ten-times-fast . . .

Yesterday's PSSC meeting in Poway, CA was a rip-roarin' success, so I heard. For various reasons, I missed much of it, so maybe you who did make it there can provide a few visual and narrative highlights?

I did get there, really late (like I hope for my own funeral) and I hear tell it was quite the event, even (especially?) before I got there.

Thanks to @Josh-O, @BS Man about Palms, @daxin and others who attended, included @Darold Petty who came on down from San Francisco for the fun in the sun.

Well it wasn’t a total a bust. We had us an experimental large plant auction at which I managed to score this porno-tacular “coco-nut Queen” hybrid.

Thanks @Josh-Ofor donating it!

Like Dave, I arrived late, but also had to leave early.  Missed the auction completely, as well as the first garden.  The second garden had some spectacular flowering proteas, a very nice big several feet of trunk Dypsis decipiens, and cycads.  I only took a few pictures though before heading off.  Proteas positioned on a hillside with boulders first.

A couple of other non-palm standouts in the Arnold garden.  The last photo of the male Encephalartos longifolius had a story to go with it.  "Chip" Arnold shared that the week before we arrived at another event he had, someone had backed into this beautiful longifolius which was adjacent to the long drive up the hill.  The poor male cone was dangling by a string after the collision and a few leaves were damaged as well.  Fortunately it stuck up nice and high, so whoever hit it must have realized what happened before too much damage was done.  Even with the damage it was a beautiful specimen.

Finally a really zoomed low resolution photo of a group of silver Braheas at the base of the hill. Chip said that there are Clara, armata, and aculeata in the group, plus some Sabals. Chip also said that there are trails that go all the way from the house to these palms. I wish I had tried that.49D0549D-13B7-414C-A173-7D6EA9520B7F.jpeg.2943e789f46d93f1753c7bcaa2c6c462.jpeg

Bonus shot of Dave at home with his magnificent Beccariophoenix alfredii. I told him that I would post this on Palmtalk, and he just stood up noticeably straighter with a big proud smile. Thank you Dave!
