Yes, that banding on underside of leaves are wrong for blanchetiana. It will be easier to identify when it blooms.

I've only seen pictures of variegated Blanchetiana but now I am really intrigued. $10 that is a steal. :D Last year I got two A. Blanchetiana cuttings one rooted right away the other took a lot longer hope to get some good color on them this year.

The underside banding reminds me of my Ae. 'JC Superstar' plants.

That's what I was thinking too, there is another one that has pinkish orange banning like that too but can't think of the name.

I got my original plant as a small plant many many (15?) years ago from Tropiflora. It has since made many many many plants. I have a ton. They are EXTREMELY hardy. The tag was lost years ago. I have tried to ask Tropiflora if they can tell me what it is, but they don;t respond to my inquiries. Let me look up JC Superstar!!! And you BOTH need to weigh in on my question about the sick Chamie seifrizii!!!!! Please??

JC Superstar does resemble this plant greatly. The only real differences I can see are that mine has a defined 'stripe' down the center of each leaf blade, and has a more prostrate spread than an upright one. I know the darn thing is an Aechmea but its driving me crazy mot being able to re-identify it!

The other pinkish orange bromeliad I was thinking was Aechmea 'Flamingo' is a beautiful cross of fendleri x chantinii.

I love 'flamingo' it's a very reliable bloomer, but I don't think it's what 'Metalfan' has because leaves on top tend to be mostly greenish with some red at tips.

Have any of you grown Racinaea? I have 3 Racinaea species, 2 in spike. This is R. crispa. I had this plant years and years ago and killed it because I did not understand its particular cultural needs. But I am educated now and managed to get this one into spike!

IDK, bcuz it’s been around a very long time, and blooms reliably whereas many take seemingly forever to bloom. If u were closer I’d give u a pup.

I have not, it’s a beauty though. A lot I cant grow here because of the salt, and my well water is salty too. I usually stick to the landscape broms, they are super tough and can take my environment.

Our water is the same. I use purified water on these.

Bird Rock Tropicals has one I am lusting over, its a new release, a hybrid called 'Seuss'. But they want $55 (on SALE) normally $75. Too rich for my blood. Maybe when it gets over being a 'new release' the price will come down to a reasonable level and I can collect one
