Euterpe oleracea - cutting stem

Hi, I have a doubt. If I cut the main stem of a Euterpe oleracea will the plant die? Will new stems grow?

It IS a clumping variety so theoretically, yes. Personally, I would wait until I see a new sucker starting, or let another sucker establish before I cut down a stem. They grow pretty dang fast so I don't think you'd have to wait too long; at least the one I had grew fast. Main stem got to probably 20' of trunk in 5 years in Hawaii.

Solid zone 9, I can expect at least one night in the mid to low twenties every year.

Hot, dry summers. Cold, wet winters.

I intend to grow it indoors, so I'd like to know if if would be possible to keep them indefinitely cutting the largest stems as soon as they reach the ceiling..
