Roystonea Violacea seed germination

Well after a few weeks of waiting my seeds finally arrived. I couldn’t find R. Violacea for sale so I decided to order from RPS. Out of 10 seeds, 5 immediately sunk.

I’m excited to see how these do over the coming months. Now if it would just warm up about 20f outside....

anyone else growing these? Any tips?

I'm growing some that I got from RPS last year. Out of 200 seeds, I had 4 sprouts (but I ordered them a few months after they were listed). They're more cold sensitive than R. regia, but care is otherwise similar.

How are they coming along? I’m hoping for at least a couple of sprouts. What was your germanation time?

They've grown about the same rate as regular royals. They're going pinnate now, and I hope to have them big enough to plant by next spring. The ones that germinated sprouted within 2 months.

That’s awesome! I hope to be in the same boat soon enough!

I have seedling from a lot of RPS seeds I got last year. For me it has been slower growing than R. regia and is about 12-14" tall and working on its 3rd strap leaf. I am hoping it will pick up speed now warm weather is here.

I received 20 nice plants from Floribunda back early December. The seed source is from RPS. I have no idea how old they are. They are not as old as Meg’s and Zeeth’s. They are on their second leaf now. They seem to be happy in pots that I have them in with no drainage holes.  I don’t water them to heavily because of that. Now my recommendation is to watch Chris Faulkner’s YouTube video on germinating palms seeds. He seems to be knowable in it. I am still learning. I bought 100 seeds of R. violacea back December 2017 with zero germinating.

You can also check with Floribunda to see if they any available from RPS seeds.  I think those seeds are authentic.

I currently have 10 now. I sold half of the 20. Two are being held for someone. The others I might sell later but not now.
