I have seen recently small plants of this for sale at $65. Is this a reasonable price?

No but its not a seedling its a small plant that would be able to be mailed in the mail, maybe 3-4 fronds, very mottled

Is it not commonly for sale? I know I have never seen it but I don't get around much. I have the Pinanga 'Thai Mottled' but this one looks really nice too

Well, I just read the palmpedia article about it. Seems the mottling disappears when the plant gets bigger. What's the fun in that?? That's like having an Ae Ae banana that turns green.

I just wanted to clarify that I did not take this photograph. This is the photograph of the 'example' plant for sale on the website of Natural Selections Exotics. If you are interested in purchasing this palm, they have them and this is the size they are offering.

I was just cruising NSE's website to see what new stuff they had available and I saw this. I Googled it, and of course this PT post comes up! OH! If only this palm stayed like its juvenile form, I'd purchase it in a heartbeat. I'm not a fan of how incredibly pinnate the adult leaves are...and as you said, it looses its mottling when mature. BAH!! I'll stick with collecting Pinanga disticha forms.

Naples (inland), FL - technically 10a but more like 9b in the winter :hmm:

The price is a little high, but it is a rare palm, so if you can’t find a better price, then you might not have a choice.  It does lose its mottling as it ages and then looks like most other more common Pinangas.  These are also very cold sensitive so be carful if you plan on planting them in the ground.

Because they clump, there will always be a load of juvenile mottled fronds at the bottom of the plant. Great looking palm:greenthumb:

Ah, I never noticed that it clumped. ...back to considering getting one...

I always get so excited when I see the juvenile form of this palm, but when I forget what it looks like as an adult, and look it up and see photos of the leaning ones growing in full sun on Palmpedia, they really turn me off of this palm. IMO they look so terrible. However, if I grow one in the shade of my lanai, it will probably retain its nice mottling and red hue for quite some time. Hmm.... :indifferent:
