Potted Pineapple

Sorry if this is the wrong topic or the wrong board...

But while worrying about my outside palms during the polar vortex temperatures up here north of Baltimore, MD I found that I have a pineapple coming in to one of my potted plants and it made me very happy! Most of my pineapple plants are from fruit grown by a friend in Lake Placid, FL (z9B).

Very nice. Is it an edible or an ornamental pineapple? Pineapples are tropical, so I hope you don't leave it out in freezing weather.

Usually this would go into the other forum "TROPICAL LOOKING PLANTS - Other Than Palms" but you can't see that forum from the default Palmtalk click, you have to hit the "Home" button to see the other segment.  It's weird.

Anyway, that one looks great!  I have a couple of clusters of Ananas Lucidus (red spineless) that I separated offshoots from one mother plant.  They cruised through 35F in December and 33F in January with no damage.  The other I have is a type of White Jade I think, with silver undersides and greenish top with a diffused purple center stripe.  It had some early leaf burn in December but hasn't gotten any worse.  None are fruiting but I hope to see something by April!

Beautiful! I saw one of these for sale when I picked up my coconut, and was very tempted. Yours looks so nice! What a pick-me-up in this gloomy weather!
