I've sent out BHI palmetto seeds to a handful of PT members in the past.  They seem to be ripe later in the year than the local landscape palmettos (ripe now), and I collected them in FEB last time.  I'll make an effort to head over there by boat sometime in the upcoming months, and probably will post again that I have some BHI palmetto seed up for grabs.  I'll send you a PM if I ever get my hands on some.

Do you like this one? It grew on me I kept passing by all summer feigning for seeds. it has the best crown I've seen on any palm locally other than some of my neighbors Trachys.

There arent too many palms around here but I can remember most of them ive seen driving around town. It is even more dense looking when the seeds are not present.

I understand shade can make these grow more full in the crown.  It has some protection at the tip top of the summer but otherwise gets alot of sun...

I can barely reach the lowest leaf!

What is BHI btw?

Bald Head Island

This island in SE NC has the northernmost (and sort of disjunct) population of native (not naturalized) Sabal palmetto.   I think there are some subtle morphological differnces compared to palmetto at the southern portions of the range.

I don't know if the Sabal of BHI have the genetics to be more cold hardy than others further south, the habitat at BHI was moderated enough to allow S. palmetto to survive, or a combination of both.  However there is some interest in this ecotype by palm growers in seeking cold hardy forms of S. palmetto.

I've been also looking for seeds of this ecotype of Sabal palmetto for years. So would love to buy some seeds from you if you have some available again - thanks! :)
