Much cooler today, as we’ve had cloud cover all morning. Currently at 99F and should only see a high of 103F. Started out at 86F, with the concrete still hot from yesterday -  which was much warmer than suggested as an overnight low.

99f in London 18% humidity highest official temp was in santon downham highest official in London was 37.4c at Kew though the official temperatures are in large parks or airports which is at least 1-2c cooler than the suburbs. the Northolt official temperatures for example was only 37.1c but the suburbs there were showing the highest temperature in London if not the UK. Very warm temperatures on wunderground. Top is the Northolt suburbs bottom is Cambridge.

Nikau palm had to have a fan on it all day. Despite watering the area my queen palm is in against the brick wall it got very very hot since it's a south west facing wall and is dark colored. Queen palm is still growing fast Washingtonia robusta is now growing a new frond every 7-10 days I can see why these palms are known for fast growth filifera is still fast but slower than the robusta. Extremely hot under the Queen palm around 4pm if it got this hot today then tomorrow it might be even worse!

101F in the neighborhood atm after a surprise busy Sunday night..   Saturday was busy as well, though storms rode the foothills north and west before rolling through parts of the valley instead of rolling due west from the mountains.

Yesterday was supposed to be quieter.. ( the " Down, Atmosphere is too worked over" kind of day following an active day rule.. ) but some not well forecast factors came together thru the afternoon and helped spark storms across a wider area. Some re- development occurred around 1am and lasted thru the morning hours from roughly  where i'm located and to the west / northwest..

Both nights saw fairly extensive wind generated damage, especially last night across parts of the east valley just to my north. Lost a section of the Olive tree out front myself.  Some storms that raked parts of S. AZ just west and southwest of Tucson dropped hail up to Ping Pong Ball size, which is rare for monsoon season activity.

Supposed to quiet down the rest of today- about Thursday as drier air works into the state fron the northeast, though not all the current Wx model data agrees activity will be shut off completely.. Some regional model runs want to move lingering/ late night activity out of the mountains and into parts of the valley over the next few days while others keep things dry area-wide ..and capped ( meaning any storm activity stays confined to the mountains / won't be able to survive moving off the mountains into the lower deserts ).

Forecast break in the 110+ heat looks to be kicked down the road to -at least-  next weekend as the 4 corners high decides to spend a few days sitting directly over Arizona ( Subsidence below it would also limit storm activity ) < may be time for everyone here to go outside, look up,  and give the sky a scornful / shaming look..  haha >  We'll see how that plays out.. Like i said, not all the forecast models shut off Phoenix and Tucson area storm chances for the work week.

As yesterday pointed out, A forecast is just a forecast.. and Monsoon season never follows the rules.   More significant return of moisture state wide should occur by Sat/ Sunday- into early next week ..unless that gets kicked down the road again thru the week.

While i missed out on the more significant storms, some decent lightning and pretty wild skies the last couple nights.. Some rain too, though it really needs to dump for more than half an hour / hour to really get moisture into the ground/ water everything well.   Hopefully, that's what lies ahead, ..and much more lightning :greenthumb:.

Been watching the reports come in all day.. Pretty crazy for that far north..  And to think.. this would be a snapshot of what we consider a " cool " day here..

A few hours w/ out Air conditioning while it was 115-117F the other day was beastly.. Can't imagine a few days of 100-105F w/ out access to it, esp. in a region where such heat is pretty much unheard of.

Take it seriously,  Even when not thirsty,  stay hydrated!

@Silas_Sancona I have ac and lots of places in London have installed AC in the last 10 years but it's really going to hit people further north in the UK with potentially 42c in Yorkshire I seriously doubt many houses have ac there since the summers on average are quite a bit cooler. At least the air is straight from the Sahara desert so very low humidity dew point was only 57f during the hottest time around 4. It's now 9.45pm and 88f with 30% humidity tonight should be very warm for London. Tomorrow should be hotter

57deg Dew point is actually a touch high, at least by our standard.. Low/ lower than places like FL. or coastal TX. though.

At their lowest, dew points here in AZ / the interior Southwest US are in the teens / 20s. < and can approach / drop to 0 at times >  Guarantee, as hot as it is/ may get, you'd likely be seeing temp. readings  4-7deg hotter if dew points were 10-15deg lower..  Same w/ humidity.. ( 29% here atm.. so a touch muggy )  For whatever reason, that extra moisture in the air helps to keep air temps. in check. That said, high moisture in the air on a hot day will also make for a warm night.

This time of year is when it gets " soupy " = Dew points above 50-55..  Was in the 70s locally early this morning, 63 currently.

So cloud cover rolled in at about 2:30pm on Monday afternoon, limiting solar heating for at least an hour or so. It actually reduced the temperature slightly, so my max was only 37.9C / 100.2F here. Still pretty hot though, just not record breaking here.

946687694_thumbnail_image0(26).thumb.jpg.50ae67985dc697b72c5d46f7b3a6e195.jpg

Overall not quite as hot as we were anticipating across the board really. The maximum on an official Met Office station was only 38.1C / 100.6F, so no new UK record, yet. That will almost certainly come tomorrow however with temps over 40C / 104F. Lots of local records beaten however across the UK.

Wales smashed it's all-time record though by 1.9C with Hawarden reaching 37.1C / 99F

All-time record high for Jersey too...

All-time record high for Cornwall as well with 35.7C / 96F at Bude...

No doubt some inland places probably reached 40C / 104F but were not picked up due to a lack of coverage when it comes to 'official' Met stations...

Tuesday was always going to be the hottest day. I would be shocked if the UK temperature record wasn't smashed tomorrow with 25C+ isotherms moving over the south of England tonight. At least one Met station has to reach 40-41C / 105F tomorrow, surely. Forecasts are still saying 42-43C potentially, but I doubt that will happen. Let's see. Temps are exceptionally warm tonight so Tuesday morning will have a clear headstart on Monday's temps. BBC still suggesting very high temperatures to come tomorrow. 42C / 108F near Boston apparently.

An overnight low of 26C  was apparently recorded at one official station so broke record by a substantial 2C. Not sure how the UK measures it but locally the met office defines the low as lowest temp between 9am reset times on consecutive days, which comes from when humans had to take the readings manually. This means need two warm nights in a row to record a high minimum temperature. It's kind of stupid as a very warm night can be lost to the records.

It looks like the low at Jersey was only 27C / 80F as well. Lots of stations reporting lows of 27-28C in London, but as you say due to the recordings being done at 9am - 9am it means the highest official Met station comes in at 25.8C as the low it seems.

When I was driving into work this morning it was already 30C / 86F at 8:30am.

At 10am it is already 35C / 95F in west London. Assuming it doesn’t cloud over before mid-afternoon, it could reach 41-42C somewhere. As of right now, London is currently the hottest place in Europe and it certainly will be come this afternoon.

@UK_Palmsthe low was 25.5c for me the reason I think we didn't see hotter temperature is because we had clear skies and the night was windless so I think we experienced surface temperature inversion where all the cold air sank to the bottom while the hot air was was slightly higher above the ground.

The UK all-time record has fallen before lunchtime here in my county of Surrey. The new national record stands at 39.1C / 103F, which was recorded at 11:30am. The temperature will obviously be even higher now, since it is climbing by the minute, and will continue rising as solar heating continues for another 3-4 hours at least. Cloud cover will inevitably move in this afternoon though as a cold front comes in off the Atlantic. 40-41C should easily be achieved before then however. Interesting times.

It’s going to be a busy day of records. 40C / 104F already in London at midday with at least 3 hours of solar heating to go! 42-43C may be on the table for London now.

I am currently at a balmy 39.8C / 103F here…

80F at sunrise. Ending up briefly at 105F yesterday. Today is estimated around 107F, then back to the 110s.  “Average” for this time of year is 102F for us, so nothing overwhelming.

Meanwhile London burns after the hottest day on record. Fire crews have lost control of a number of active fires as they are overstretched. Houses have been raised to the ground. Multiple fires active right now.

Coldest start to winter since the 1940s here in Melbourne. Right now it’s -1C / 30F at the nearest official weather station. Going to be the same again tomorrow night and possibly the night after which will be 4 frosts in a row. Average minimum so far this July is around 4C/40F and days aren’t warming up beyond about 13C/55F. Bitterly cold. Some damage already on some of my marginal stuff but others holding up ok. It will be interesting to see in a week or so the extent of the damage.

Last night it only got down to 94 F for the coolest overnight temp.

I just went into Phoenix Uptown at 32nd Street and Camelback and my car tells me it is 114 F.

It is Phoenix, though, so our reputation is to be hot in summer.

They say It's good for the cactus!

That's actually cold for Melbourne that's lower than my minimum temperature here in London this year and the average of 4c I usually have an average of 5c here in January. Hopefully Australia warms back up to normal temperature!

Here are the final numbers for Tuesday. Lot's of stations above 40C / 104F, especially in London, however the hottest temp occurred in northern England at Coningsby. Some stations are still yet to report, such as Cambridge Botanic Garden, which held the previous all-time record before today. I wouldn't be shocked if a higher figure is announced over next 12 hours.

The fire situation must be the worst it has ever been in UK history. The absolute scenes on outskirts of London tonight... @Silas_Sancona. @cbmnz @Tyrone

82f/27.7c 55% humdity very humid today unlike yesterday where it felt like a desert, sun and clouds this morning and cloudy now.Forecast doesn't look to bad either for the rest of July. Hopefully August  is another month above average looks like it will. Average daily high temperature for heathrow this year.

What temperature is Manchester tomorrow and Tuesday? one positive thing with this heat is my mejol date palm seedling is growing fast for the first time not much of a breeze here. Another thing I haven't thought about till now is we may possibly break sea temperature records south end already over 20c

Only saw this just now, but it was broadly 35ºC on Monday and 37ºC on Tuesday.  Several personal weather stations were reporting 40, indeed some further south saw 42, but we don't know if they are maintained in the best position (e.g. out of the sun).  Mine is in deepest shade and reached 35.3 on Monday then 36.3 on Tuesday, which was one of the coolest highs in Manchester that day.  Reputable stations, like those maintained by the universities, exceeded 37.  In any case the record of 33.7 was truly smashed.

The overnight low between those two days was 23.7 at my station, never dropped below 30 in the house so I slept in the cellar!  It stayed around 20ºC down there.

It's currently cloudy and 21ºC, which feels very refreshing, even quite cool, despite it being the average high for July here.  Bizarrely my high temperature today was 27.6ºC but that was at midnight this morning as yesterday's heat was still dissipating.

I’m currently in Herne Bay in Kent for work, which is about 40 miles east of London. It’s not stupidly hot like yesterday but still 29C / 84F right now along the coast here.

Nasty heatwave over your way.  Love the pictures of the Jubes!
