A hot 93F at noon on Easter Sunday.. We'll see if high cloudiness forecast to increase later on keeps Phoenix from reaching / eclipsing 100F a few hours from now.  Regardless..

Shooting for 102-104F today, if the clouds hold off long enough. If it's going to be this hot, why not top it off with a chef's kiss, right?

...Chef's kiss alright.

Somehow thin, increasing clouds kept Phoenix from hitting 100F around the same time. Still tied the daily high record of 98F, ending up in a 3 way tie for 3rd hottest Easter.  Shave off a deg. or two tomorrow.

9pm dead still and 20.3C with 85%rh. It got to a very humid 26C today. It’s very warm for April. We had thunder and lightning last night with a few large drops fall. Enough to wet everything down. Plants are going well. It’s meant to be a foggy yet warm night tonight.

The weather has been crap here the past week or so. The last week of March saw temperatures well above average, with a high of 26.9C recorded last week, but temperatures have trended downwards since then and they are now well below average for early April. I only reached 9C here both today and yesterday, with lows around 5C. There's a possibility of a frost tonight as well, if the skies end up clearing. BBC is forecasting a low of 0C for me here tonight. Hopefully that is the last frost of spring, assuming it does actually end up dropping down to freezing. It's going to depend entirely on cloud cover. This has certainly been the coldest start to an April that I can remember.

Despite the potential frost risk, I have had to water everything in pots heavily today. It's super dry again right now and I have only recorded 0.07 inches of rainfall so far in April and 0.12 inches since mid March. All of the potted stuff has dried out and drooped, so I had no choice but to water it this afternoon. Hopefully the temperature doesn't drop below 2-3C tonight. It looks like next week is going to be on the cold side as well, before a big injection of spring warmth next weekend. There's some light rain 'spitting' down right now, the first in ages, but it's not enough to be measurable and there's no sign of any further rainfall in the forecast. Another spring/summer drought is impending for sure.

A mild 78F at 7:51PM after another day at 94F. Anticipated batch of high clouds headed this way from the East Pacific may shave a couple degrees off tomorrow if thick / extensive enough. Dry trough may sag just far enough south to push temperatures back down to the mid 80s Tuesday- Thursday or Friday before another rebound.

Interesting tidbit from a local Wx forecaster regarding how hot the area may by 2100. Think 100-100+ heat thru the summer can be a tough haul?  how 'bout it staying that hot for 6 months -straight..  While all the pavement/cement here / in any city plays a part in rising temperatures, increasing heat is being seen in areas far removed from urban centers.  Interesting times ahead for sure..

Got a cyclone coming down the coast which may mess things up a bit. I’m well out of its path but we will get some decent rain from it in the next 48hrs.

These first 2 weeks of April are going to go down as the coldest on record here. I've never known it to be this cold, this late on in spring. If we had this setup 2-3 months ago, I would be having to protect all my palms and I would be at risk of losing many of them to record lows. Thankfully we are well out of winter now, so there is a limit to how cold it can actually get, but the temperatures are still well below average. Like at record lows for this time of year. I think my record overnight low for this date could go tonight.

Daytime highs are barely reaching 8-9C in recent days. It's been cold, overcast and miserable all day on Sunday, but low and behold, as soon as the sun starts setting, the sky clears allowing rapid radiational cooling. The temperature has already plummeted down to 0C at 2am here and it will probably go down to -3C tonight under the clear skies. Absolutely crap for mid-spring. More like mid-winter. This time last year I already had pepper plants in the ground outdoors. Not a chance this year though with this record late cold snap.

I only went down to -1C last night but have woke this morning to snow! In mid April! I have never seen it this cold, this late on! Going for a high of 48F today, supposedly...

This, from the 14th, might have something to do w/ the current cool spell back there:

Shouldn't last long. Been seeing 100/ 100F+ readings for parts of TX showing up in some GFS model runs the last few days.

Here in PNW we've been having heat waves, 81F today and 7:15pm 78F.  Cannas are almost a foot tall, Oh today we set a new record old record was 80F.  End of next week we'll be getting nice rain since it so dry right now.

It’s so dry here at the moment. I would hedge a bet that southeastern England is the driest place in Europe at this moment in time. I have only recorded 0.07 inches of rainfall for April so far and only 0.58 inches over the past 6 weeks, since 1st March. February was relatively dry as well, which is having a knock on effect this spring. Plus there’s absolutely no rainfall at all in the extended forecast either. Baring in mind that I had exactly 0.0 inches of rain last May, I am therefore expecting this spring to finish on less than 1 inch of rainfall. Not good as we have dry summers here as well.

In fact it’s so dry here that I may have to water the Washingtonia’s that are in the ground...

I’m trying to dig holes for my veg plants but the ground is already like dust. Just bone dry.

The rivers are already nearly down to 50% capacity. In April! My two driest months, May and June, are still yet to come...

On the flip side, nighttime temperatures have been well below average due to the clear skies. We may set an April record this year for the coldest average low. And most sunshine hours. Lots of sunny days that reach 55-60F followed by cool nights down to 25-30F.

Highs of 18-19C and glorious sunshine the past couple of days here, but still very cold at night due to the clear skies. A massive high pressure system is firmly set up over us and not going anywhere. So no chance of any rainfall.

Temperatures are well below average for April due to the clear skies at night, resulting in numerous radiation freezes. There has been diurnal swings of up to 20C between day and night. April has actually been about 3C colder than average for me this year. Near record sunshine levels though.

I’m desperate for some rain but there’s probably not going to be any, for quite a while. There’s none in the forecast for the rest of April and last May saw zero rainfall as well.

Thankfully, most of it came overnight so it had time to soak in.

You might get something this coming weekend, and perhaps again later next week. We may see some showers Monday here, and may only reach 75-78F both Monday/ Tuesday.  Not completely unusual of for late April but a little off script for a La Nina year.

A pleasant 79F at 8:22PM on a Friday night in the Desert.. Interesting week ahead..  89-94F over the weekend, then " cold " well, to most people here, for the end of April anyway to start next week.

Left over energy  from a former West PAC. Hurricane, currently crossing the Pacific brings a pretty dramatic cool down, and perhaps the last chance of " decent " spring showers / snow showers for the state Monday into early Tuesday. Won't do a thing for the drought, but even .20" of an inch, in April, is good enough, ..for now.  Highs both days are anticipated to hang in the mid / upper 70s / lows in the 50s.. 60-62F, at best.  Beyond that, get ready.. Looks like the race to 100 is rounding the final turn.

After the anticipated storm exits stage left into the Plains/ South on Wednesday, that famous late spring heat returns, with a vengeance. At least according to most forecasts at the present time.
Should reach the mid 90s Thursday, then it look like our first official 100F readings should be reached Friday / Sat. Current suggested highs for both days ( WX. Underground ) are 101 and 103. Backs off to the mid/upper 90s after the weekend but, for now, looks like the up and down temperature pattern of recent weeks shifts east and north.

California should heat up as May starts as well.

If we do exceed 100 both next Friday ( the 30th ) and next Sat. ( May 1st ) that is about a month ahead of schedule, per the local average.. ( first 100 readings would typically occur around Memorial Day )

*** Side note, Saw last night that the 30 year average update should be released sometime next month. Not sure if that is just for Phoenix or the entire country. Should be interesting to analyze regardless***

High of 18C (64F) here today but balls to the wall sunshine all day. It's absolutely dry as a bone here right now. I'm still stuck on 0.07 inches for April and only 0.58 inches since 1st March. Sunshine hours must be well over 200+ for the southeast of England this April. Possibly as high as 230 hours already.

The whole of the UK is being affected by the current drought. There's even wildfires ravaging northern Ireland...

No sign of any rainfall whatsoever in the extended forecast still, so things are only going to get worse, especially in southern England. I had to water all the Washingtonia's here again, which are planted in the ground. The clay soils have just turned to sand. Outdoor humidity was all the way down to 8% here this afternoon. It's almost like high desert weather with clear, sunny days and cold nights.

April is almost over but the weather is still quite warm and dry for this time of year. We got a dose of rain a couple of weeks ago from a tropical cyclone that made its way down from the north of our state but nothing since, hopefully we'll get some at the end of next week, we're supposed to according to BOM.

High of 63F here today but all day sun again. Cold, dry arctic air is flowing down now, but high pressure is still in control for now. Temperatures are going to remain below average for the next 7-10 days now by the looks of things, especially with the arctic air mass moving in. There's a slight chance of some rain midweek, but I'm not holding out hope. I'm still on 0.07 inches for April.

This bed was heavily amended with compost last spring, but it has already reverted back to dry, arid, sandy dust. It is actually sand/dust down to about 5-6 inches. I haven't done a single bit of weeding either, so it must be so dry that the weeds can't survive in that spot. There were some weeds here in winter, but the spring drought has killed them off.

Well we’ve been having beautiful sunny mid twenties weather down here the last few days. The rain has stopped from about Wednesday. We’ve had around 100mm for April (avg 74mm April) and most of it fell in the first half of April. The lakes are the highest I’ve seen them this late in the season. I’m hoping for a mild and moist winter and so far the climate models are suggesting just that. Expecting cool temps and rain from Friday.

A comfortable and cloudy 75F at 12:30PM after hitting 96 yesterday.. Much anticipated chance of rain looks to wimp out again. Might wet the pavement, if lucky between now and Tuesday night. Cooler tomorrow, then back to the heat. Forecast is still calling for the first 100 /100+ readings Friday and over the weekend but we'll see if highs reach the century mark on just one day, or all 3 ( lots of conflicting info regarding just how hot it will get atm )

On another note, Perhaps an early start to the 2021 Eastern Pacific Hurricane season??  Starts on May 15th officially, but GFS is already spinning up at least 2 possible " lows " off Mexico just after the first of May.  Central American Gyre ( C.A.G. ) also appears to try to come to life around the same time in the long range.   Last night's model runs ( Tidbits ) were attempting to spin up a sub 980MB system in the vicinity of Acapulco.

Adding to what the GFS model runs were hinting at last night, this post from yesterday eluding to the possibility something may be in the cards soon, ahead of schedule. Would start keeping an eye in the Atlantic/ Caribbean later too.. I say, bring all East Pac. storms that form off Mexico to CA. and AZ this year. Always hoping for that elusive San Diego Hurricane. I'll be there waiting.  :greenthumb::

I see that Guildford is still languishing in winter like conditions even into May, with daytime highs barely into the teens celsius / 51-55F and overnight 0C / 32F  Hard to believe just a few weeks out from official start of summer. Mind you I guess at 51N its probably not abnormal.

I don't want to be a pessimist mate, but I am expecting a big fire in Surrey county, UK in the coming days. We've only had 1mm of rain in the past 4-5 weeks. It's too dry for there not to be a big ass fire, frankly. Although my major nearby common, Hankley, burnt out 2 weeks ago, but I'm expecting it to go up in flames again. Firefighters are there waiting. We are now on 'EXTREME' fire risk rating here, in APRIL!!!!... climate change for you... the is not the same climate of say 20 years ago even....hence the scale of palms being grown here at 51N..............

I see that Guildford is still languishing in winter like conditions even into May, with daytime highs barely into the teens celsius / 51-55F and overnight 0C / 32F  Hard to believe just a few weeks out from official start of summer. Mind you I guess at 51N its probably not abnormal.

Just for the record, this has been the coldest April I can ever remember. We have had a near constant flow of dry, arctic air from the northeast since February now. Usually I may have perhaps 2-3 frosts in April here going down to maybe -1C on one or two nights, however this April I have had like 15 frosts with lots of -2C's and the odd -3C. Quite unbelievable for the time of year. This is not normal even for this latitude here. Days have been warming up to 12-16C, but nights dropping right down to -2C due to weeks on end of clear skies.

In recent years I have had tomato and pepper plants out already, but no chance of that this year. I will hold off for another week or two, at least. While today only reached 11C here due to cloud cover, previous days have been warming up to 15-16C under the clear sunny skies. But then the nights fall below freezing still. At least now we have cloud cover we probably won't have any frosts. I'm expecting a low of 2C here tonight. Still crap for late April. I bet you this summer will be a real hot one though. These things usually balance out. A cold spring is usually followed by a hot summer (touch wood). And on the plus side, we actually got some rain here today. Finally.

We had almost 6 inches of rain down here (San Antonio)  in the past 24 hours!

We're in extreme drought, so it is very welcome.

Temps are probably in the 70s as it still cloudy.

I think we had less than one inch since January 1st.

At the rate things are going ( esp. if Phoenix/ rest of the valley gets nothing again over the summer ) we'll be lucky to get 6" this year. Phx's average is only 8"

You must have missed the bulk of the storms that plowed through that area last night. Looked mighty impressive as they approached San Antonio/ Austin from the west/ southwest on radar. Imagine it was quite a light show.

These types of storms are pretty localized.  The southern end got the most rain.

Luckily for me the storms from the west lose intensity around Fair Oaks and Sisterdale.

Currently in the high 80s with lots of sun.  We could use rain (again).  Next week starts off with a heatwave.

Currently 74°f and overcast.  It's a nice and cool comfortable day today for this time of year.  I woke up this morning and the  rain gauge had 2" of water.  That's nice since our palms need it after the arctic blast.
