Maxed out at 33C / 92F here near Guildford it seems. Temps were slightly cooler than predicted thanks to a fairly strong breeze coming off the Atlantic. Humidity down to 19% at one point here. This thermometer is situated in complete shade, but I briefly opened the gate up to get a better picture showing the liquid. That allows some sunlight in from the northwest, but it was showing 33C / 92F from about 3pm - 5pm with the gate closed. My nearby Wundergound station temps can verify that.

Really desperate for rain still as I have gone 2 weeks since my last measurable rainfall now and even that was only 1mm. Since the start of spring on March 1st, I have only registered 0.9 inches of rainfall across the past 14-15 weeks now. We may get a thunderstorm tomorrow, but if we don’t we are in trouble. 28C / 82C forecast here tomorrow. I'll probably be warmer than London. Not seeing any rain in the forecast at all really. The Warm-summer Med influence looks locked in for southeast England.

It's a pleasant 15.2ºC here right now.  The forecast high is only 17ºC but it looks likely to be exceeded.  It's refreshing after the hottest day of the year for me yesterday, at 27.7ºC.  It wasn't far off 2021's maximum temperature actually, which was 29.1ºC.

91F / 41% Humidity / 64deg dew point ..breezy w/ passing showers and " pulse " - type storms.  Only spits at the house so far, but  real close to some heavier storms passing over the open desert between Queen Creek and Superior ( far east side of the east valley ).

Today's activity may stick around through the evening before retreating to S.E. AZ for the next 24-48 hours.. Looking like more opportunities for rain next week..  Though the best chances will likely be up in the mountains, for now.

Cluster of storms that had been parked over the open desert all morning attempting to nose their way west/ northwest into this side of town. Close.. but no cigar this time.  Great views regardless.

First- Bolts- of- the- Year  ...And it is only June 18th!

Can tell this is going to be an excellent vantage point.. Not too bad by day, perfect for any storms that occur around / within the first hour or two after sunset.

Missed a couple fairly close strikes that occurred as i was pulling into the parking lot. Part of this storm tried to make a break toward the west and over the west end of the San Tans ( Mountains in view in the first couple shots ).  As that particular cell passed, could see rain falling maybe a quarter of a mile away.

@Ryland It was still pretty warm down south on Saturday. I managed to reach 26.8C / 80F just before midday, but the cold front swooped in and dropped temps considerably. I got a few drops of rain here and there, but hardly anything at 2mm. Quite a bit of dry lightening around last night that I could see, but I couldn't really hear.

33840792_thumbnail_image0(9).thumb.jpg.d29a2967477befb2bc03c9fdd003df18.jpg

A much cooler 20C / 68F for me here today. Despite the drop off in temps, it's not looking like much of a break in the weather with temps back up to 25-30C in London by mid next week. Thursday will probably reach 30C / 86F by the looks of things.

@Tyrone They recorded 43.4C / 109F in southwest France on Saturday, although it wasn't quite as hot as forecast. The 43.4C in Pissos broke the record for the 2nd consecutive day after they recorded a new record of 41.7C on Friday. The town of Biarritz broke its all time record by 2.3C / 5F, eclipsing the 40.6C set in August 2003 with a balmy 42.9C on Saturday. Lots of monthly and all-time records broken across France.

43.5C / 110F in northern Spain at San Sebastian, which smashed its all time temperature record by a massive 4.5C / 9F. Spain is currently dealing with brutal wildfires.

The sea temperatures around Europe are off the scale, especially in the western Med. It's the most anomalously warm region on earth.

A warm ..and kinda muggy 89F at 9:38AM as skies continue to clear from the west.. Quite a contrast of Dew Point readings laid out across the valley this morning with many areas east of downtown Phoenix still seeing readings above 50 deg. ( Reached 72deg here yesterday ..Very unusual for mid- June ) to 25deg out toward the CA/ AZ border.

Drier air will continue to advance eastward as the Pac. Trough that helped bring us and especially Western New Mexico some early season rain / storms works it's way east through the northern Great Basin.

As it passes, western edge of the massive High Pressure ridge over the rest of the country re-establishes itself and starts funneling in more moisture. Rain chances retreat to far Eastern and S.E'strn. AZ through late Monday, before spreading west and north again on Tuesday.

For the moment, all forecasts point to decent rain chances after early Tuesday as a more typical .." forms in the mountains in the afternoons  / spreads into the deserts around sunset " - type of pattern sets up. Some left over moisture from former Hurricane Blas, now well west of Baja, and a weak, but ideally positioned Upper level Low that forms off CA. may funnel additional moisture into the area and may also spread some moisture into Southern and Central California..  There may be another tropical system that tries to approach Baja later as well.

Dew Points here crash to the 15-20 deg range thru Monday, then return to the 50s-60s for the rest of the week. Heats up again later next week, but overall, temperatures hang somewhere between 105-109F ..or is the current forecast.   More clouds / moisture / showers, = less heat..  Drier at times?  Could see a few days creep back above 110F..  Lows start in the 68-74F range tonight, then return to the mid 80s by next weekend.. Overall, looking pretty good as the last half of June rounds the corner.

A bit of rain about today with more coming for most of the week, temperatures aren't too bad but we still have another couple of months of winter ahead so it'll get colder before it gets warmer.

A nice evening by Mid - June standards..  77F w/ a 29deg Dew Point / 16% Humidity here, 73F w/ a 33deg Dew Point / 23% Humidity down in Tucson at 12:26 AM.  Little warmer across the board tomorrow, but only expecting 102-104F here.

Watching moisture to the south.. Seeing hints it may begin to return north across AZ a bit sooner than forecast earlier. Tucson stands a chance of evening showers which may make it here by the late overnight hours.  WRF model runs from the UofA ( University of AZ ) continue an optimistic streak for decent  - by early season standards-  rain / storm activity across most of the state for the up coming week.

A look at who got rain, and who had spotted windshields yesterday via retired forecaster, John Henz

Interesting. I’m also in a valley and around 9km inland. We are cooler at night than the coast, warmer during the day.

So far I’m thankful that I haven’t had ice on the car since July 12 2020. Still a lot of winter to go yet though. Minimums are tracking about 2C warmer than average so far.

Monday evening update: 83F with a 27deg dew point / 11% Humidity.. Both should climb quite a bit by sometime tomorrow as moisture is already starting to make it's way north at the moment across South Central AZ.

While the current Wx Underground forecast is rather bearish on rain chances here, other forecast data continues to hint at increasing rain chances thru the week / upcoming weekend.  As usual as the season kicks off, we'll likely see far less rain then the high country.  A bigger potential exists for the season's first big dust event tomorrow - roughly Friday here and across the low desert as well..  News - worthy " Haboob 2022 " perhaps?

Forecast is similar, if not better for Tucson this week.  As you can see, heats up, but nothing crazy ..for the moment at least. While the current forecasts there and here suggest a break early next week, ..won't be surprised if that changes by the time Friday rolls around.

Looking like an interesting start to summer across both Central and S. Cal as well as the Upper Level Low i'd mentioned yesterday looks like it may have a little more moisture to play with as it tracks through the state. Obviously, not likely to be a soaker  so fire starts are a big concern w/ any lightning activity ..but, some will see showers regardless.

A couple shots at one of the Uof A model's thoughts ( 0Z WRF NAM )  on where rain may occur across California Wednesday ( though some areas could see showers tomorrow ).  Checking all the point and click NWS forecasts from the Bay Area, to Fresno and Bakersfield, through all of Southern CA, inc. the deserts all suggest showers at some point. Bay Area's current forecast has no rain forecast currently, but it's going to be real close by ..so rain chances could easily get bumped up over the area in tomorrow's forecasts.  WRF 0Z GFS just started running so we'll see how it looks later..

*** For anyone curious, these models are accessible for view via the UofA's Hydrology page. The 1.8KM is focused on AZ ( and New Mexico in some cases ). 5.4KM has a wider view of the west.. but you can zoom in on a specific area on the maps as well. ***

Experimental Lightning feature is a fun tool when scoping out where a good show may develop on an active day ( ...For those of us who chase bolts ).  Going w/ how it performed last year, would say it was reasonably reliable. That said..

As is the case w/ any forecast model, don't get hung on what is presented by just one model, on a given day.. Look for trends that develop over the course of a few days across several model runs..

Trend for monsoonal stuff making it into CA. has been " on the Maps " since Friday.  Regardless of the actual outcome, looks like an interesting opening to Summer 2022 for many across the region..

The annual summer solstice gathering at Stonehenge took place yesterday. Quite the spectacle at sunrise and sunset. I can’t think of a better place to experience the solstice than at Stonehenge with the warm (but not hot) temps, clear skies, long days and a tradition that goes back thousands of years. Some archaeologists reckon Stonehenge was built 8,000 years ago and predates the pyramids in Giza.

Ended up below forecast at -1.8C, seems to have done no damage apart fron the bananas. One Bangalow showing a bit of blotchy colour on one frond, but I know from last winter that does not mean tissue death is locked in as I documented palms fully reversing/recovering that over a few days.

Yeah Bangalows can come back from that temp unscathed. Pretty cold though. I saw Auckland had a 4C min forecast the other morning. I always freak when I see mins like that forecast. The BOM is about +/- 6C from the reality for me.

It's very lovely here, 20.1ºC at 11pm and enough light in the sky to see without a torch.  Today was one of the hottest of the year so far at 25.1ºC and the nights are staying very mild, around 15ºC.  Days like this are perfect for sitting in my little palm oasis where it's easy to forget this is the north of England :D

Shame about the days getting shorter here though now (those of you in the southern hemisphere, enjoy the opposite!).

I’m getting similar mins lately but they won’t last.

Dont worry, the days won’t noticably shorten for you for at least another month or so. The opposite is true here. In fact the mornings will continue to get darker for a few more days yet past the solstice as the afternoons will be the first to lighten up. I find it’s the first week of August when you begin to realise that things are a bit brighter and spring is starting to appear to be just around the corner.

Enjoy your summer and very long days.

Not a cloud in the sky today from sunrise to sunset. This photo was taken at 8:30pm. I just love this time of year when there is 18 hours of daylight.

It would be a perfect day if it wasn't for the fires around my town. For the 3rd time now, in as many months, I have smelt smoke on my property from nearby fires. And it's still only June. I've got a bad feeling about this summer now.

@UK_PalmsAmazing evening sunlight there at 8.30pm. That looks like noon here today if we had no clouds.

Would be nice if we only got little fires like that too.

Yes. But we have Eucalypts and heaps of other native plants that just want to incinerate like a 44 gallon drum of high octane petrol.

I doubt you have anywhere near as many fires as we have had this early on, which would be the equivalent of December for you. We have literally had hundreds of fires already this year. Plus we have a much higher population density so fires are seen and reported much quicker over here. It’s also quicker and easier to get resources out there from major cities to tackle them before they spread, unlike fires in the remote Australian outback.

I think the south of England is now a ticking time bomb though for a really serious and destructive wildfire. Sooner or later our ticket will be up. When that does happen, the lack of water bomber planes will cost us and probably cost lives. This year has been pretty bad already and I expect it will only get worse in the years to come. Climate change has caused rainfall to become extremely erratic over here.

@Ryland It looks like you guys are the warmest spot today with 28-29C this afternoon near Manchester. It has been cooler here today with a max of only 25.8C / 78F for me here. Northern England is warmer than southern England for a change. Enjoy it!
