Dypsis For Outdoor Pot?

Butch

Recommended Posts

I have a 41" pot (15 cu' or about 472 L) pot that I would like, maybe, a dypsis to fill... I had a majesty that went belly up (Overwatering) in this pot at this location... It will get partial sun, growing in to mostly sun... Multi or single I don't care... Looking at ambositrea, baronii, lanceolata, onilahensis... Maybe anything else you could suggest... This will be drip irrigated (broken drip head repaired)... I don't know how well these palms do in pots, so I'm asking the experts ;) ... The palm faces east but the sun will be partially and sometimes blocked by a trailer... The location will be in the far pot in the pic... It is past the eves, so no over head protection or afternoon protection from the sun for the upper leaves...There is a 6' wall behind it...  I live in N. Orange Co./LA Co.... Thanks for any help...Butch

What about Dypsis rivularis, its not too big, not too fast, not too fussy and you can't over water it.

Cheers Steve

It is not dead, it is just senescence.

Thanks for the suggestion Steve/Liz.. I did a little research, and it seems it's a little iffy here... It has a nice, colorful trunk when young, but it looks a little haggard when older... I definitely like the young trunk though... Any thoughts on my suggestions above?... Any others?... Oh, I didn't mention it above, but I'm exactly 15 miles from the ocean...Just a couple of miles from "DoomsDave"...

I really like the Lanceolata.... Anybody's thoughts on that one?... If I can find one at a reasonable price, that is probably the way I'll go...

Dypsis Lanceolata is a really nice palm. I would think it would do good in a really large pot like that. They are probably the fastest of the Dypsis you mentioned earlier too. You should check with Josh O in Vista to see if he has any for sale.

I'm pretty sure I'll go with the Lanceolata... I just hope it won't get too big for the pot... Thanks for the reply Jason... I may check with Josh O...
