I decided to create this new topic to be able to document these two Parajubaea's progress. They are planted in the garden of Hotel Brenscino in Brissago (southern Switzerland). One was donated by @maesy and the other one by yours truly. The garden is open to the public (or at least nobody said anything when I walked in) – if you ever go there, it is totally worth checking out. It is very well cared for and boasts a wide array of exotic plants.

My little one was planted last year. I was told that last winter was pretty bad for that area and you can see the damage on the older fronds.

Can't complain about the view though!

Marcel's monster. I forget what year it was planted but I think it was 2012. He will certainly tell us.

Fantastic photo's thanks for sharing. How cold does it get where these palms are planted?

I am not sure how cold it really gets but Brissago is certainly one of the mildest places of Switzerland. I reckon that anything below -5C is the absolute exception. Maybe @Vinc can tell us more.

  • 1 year later...

The weather wasn't good but here's a end of season update.

The base has swollen a bit on mine but it probably needs some more time to settle in.

My goodness that is a big one :excl:

What are the bamboo stalks used for?

It was nearly snapped off in a heavy storm a few years back. Thats why the gardener supported it with those bamboo stalks.

Wow it's amazing those can survive in Switzerland. @maesy's palm looks amazing! Coincidentally I have been looking all over the internet for Parajubaea seeds and I can't find a single source. Any idea where I can buy some seeds from? I also have half a pond of fresh Texas Sabal and some W. Filifera seeds.
