Here are some recent photos of S. loefgrenii in its native Cerrado savannas in Sao Paulo state, Brazil. The soils at the site are quite sandy and acidic.

Wow, crazy little palm. I've come to believe that there's no separating Syagrus from Allagoptera after seeing all these cool little in-habitat plants. Thanks for posting..

I had a some seeds of this species and succeeded in germinating a few. They started germinating in less than a month, and had well-developing leaves a month after that.

Update on this species 5 months later. The seedlings having been growing well under t5ho fluorescent lights. The leaves are up to 50 cm long and 8-10 mm wide.
