We got to 101f in my area. Tomorrow is supposed to be 112f which is crazy! Good news is just a few days so keep up on water and everything should be okay. Might scorch some leaves though but not as bad as frost in my opinion.

I hear ya Chris. The leafburn is the main concern during these days. They're calling for 43c/110f for my area today.

Let's see how it plays out.

Eta: it's 8:30am pst and we're already at 80F

Yes, be glad such extreme heat is a brief occurrence there, you'd be surprised how much damage exposure to prolonged heat can do to pretty much everything, esp. palms/ other stuff that might be more sensitive to hot/dry air..  It's the main reason you see shade cloth covering cacti at places like Desert Botanical during the hottest part of the summer here.

Just read over the  morning forecast discussion for Los Angeles. Looks like several areas may be as hot or hotter than the 115F briefly recorded at  PHX Sky Harbor yesterday before the first dust storm of Monsoon season blew though. They're also thinking it is quite possible Burbank might even challenge it's all time high of 117F today. NWS is suggesting many records may fall in other spots across L.A. and San Diego as well.

On the flip side, the same Wx pattern that is currently bringing us 25-40mph wind out of the east, combined with an overnight low of *only* 94F at the airport, and is supposed to kick our rain chances into high gear by Sunday, may also raise rain/ thunderstorm chances to all of Southern CA. / N. Baja by Tues-Wed..

** Correction**

Burbank's record is 113F ( forecast to hit 113F today ) It is Woodland Hills that is swinging for 117F ( record there is 119F)

Quick update for anyone interested..

From the NWS Los Angeles and San Diego Twitter pages: Ramona ( San Diego County) currently at 115F. Breaks the all time record of 111F. Woodland Hills  currently at 115F Breaks the daily record.. 4 more to go to tie or beat the 119F all time record.. There is also an ongoing, 150 acre brush fire near Alpine atm ( #WestFire twitter handle for updates).

For what it is worth, looking at temps across the region via Weather Underground's Wundermap,  There are alot of Personal Wx stations with readings at /exceeding 110F+ across the area, away from the immediate coast atm. Even seeing some 120F+ readings near Cal State Northridge.   Personal Wx stations around Burbank range between 114-119F currently.

At the same time, the nearest  neighborhood readings here in Chandler (Arizona) are hanging between 108 and 111F.    Crazy..

I was working in Temecula today and it hit 118. Pretty much stopped work for the day. My house got up to 111. Hottest I've seen since moving to the area 9 years ago. I used to live in Las Vegas and it's more expected there. I'm definitely going to see some burn from this heat but at least it cools down a bit from here.

Thank you for the updates Natt.

At 2:55pm our weather is 108F.

It is, as you say, crazy.

Still sitting at 107 here and looks like it's going to be hot tonight with a low of 80. Everything is watered well and warm nights equal fast growth from my experience. Now the bad news is the upstairs ac went out so not fun.

Luck you!! Warm as that is, it could be worse and yes, with an uptick of monsoonal moisture /humidity forecast  there also next week, you should see a big jump in summer growth. Agree nothing sucks worse than when the AC dies when its this hot. Our house can jump from 77F to 88-90F in the 3 hour window where we shut off the air between 3 and 6pm during the week. Then again, not having a $200.+ electric bill during the summer is great..

Despite being a few degrees cooler today thanks to the persistent east wind / extra rise in humidity and dew point temps, this will likely be another night Phoenix doesn't drop below 90F.

After tomorrow, temps start falling, (possibly back to the mid 90s by Wed./Thurs). Rain and storm chances rise to at least 30% from Sunday forward.

A few screen shots of the heat across L.A. and San Diego taken between 1-4pm. While skeptical of the highest reading i came across, i have little doubt that some spots reached 120F as such readings  were encountered from across the region. 115-119F heat was pretty common. While not considered the *offical* reading in a given area,  i personally think neighborhood Wx station readings give a better idea of what i feel when i walk out the door, let alone what heat /cold the garden is experiencing. anyway,..

Both the Los Angeles and San Diego NWS pages should have full reports of all the cracked and shattered records by this evening.. some have already been posted.

Very impressive heat indeed..

After watching storms building up east of us on the rim, and down south towards Tucson and Yuma, ....and another afternoon above 110F ,  nothing better than standing out in the yard and getting soaked while greeting a quick downpour.

30-60% rain chances, (maybe even some severe storms) from tomorrow thru Wed ( at least). Everyone across Southern CA looks to get in on the action by Tuesday.

No more 110F+ highs for at least a week either..

 Monsoon season HAS begun!

Yesterday we got some lightning here but only a few drops of rain. After that it was 100 and humid. Hopefully we get a good storm here. It has been a while since we had a good downpour.

While the brief rain here last night dropped the temp from 104 to 94, it was back to 100F by 11pm. A good indication that we were likely the only spot in the valley that saw enough rain to cool things down for a few minutes. No lightning either.

At 10am, its currently 99F with a dew point of 56. Humidity is only 24% though.  We're near the northern edge of "Slight Risk" category for severe storms this afternoon, and the weather service posted a region-wide "Blowing Dust Advisory" this morning, though it doesn't go in to effect until after 2pm. Technically, Phoenix isn't yet included but i'll bet it will be later on. Rare for the local NWS to issue such an advisory 9 / 10 hours in advance. Today's activity pushes west toward the coast by late tonight / tomorrow.

Wow those are some hot temperatures! Checked Death Valley for today and expected 121F/93F High/Low! Hopefully, you towards the coast will cool down.

What you look for is what is looking
