I have some but they are not old enough to know for sure that they carry the trait.

How long do you think before they start exhibiting the traits?

When they get to 3g size you can tell.

Joe: Go ahead and put me on your buyers' list now in advance of them reaching 3g size! ;)

I got decent germination last year from my RPS seeds of Chamaerops humilis 'Vulcano'  but it's too early to tell which of them will exhibit the desired traits and to what degree. ;)

Keep all of those seedlings.  You can not imagine how variable can be the offspring. From 6 seedlings I grew out of seeds gathered from a volcano specimen, only two looked promising, as the had cupped strap leaves and seemed stockier. One turned out a bit bigger than the ideal volcano, while the other turned out very compacted.

Good to know Phoenikakias! I'll be watching them develop for years before I make any decisions. ;)

They likely will show volcano traits along a spectrum from extreme to none. I was told years ago about 40% of seeds will show any volcano traits. I have one with almost perfect form and 4 more along the spectrum. I had to grow them 3-4 years to 3g size before I got reliable results. So, be patient.

I'll be patient. I don't have much room in my yard for anything now but pots anyway! ;)

My 6 surviving C. humilis 'Vulcano' seedlings (source: RPS) are now entering their 3rd year. This one I've singled out seems to be 'ahead' of the others in terms of characteristics and may have some desirable traits, such as compact growth, but it's still too early to tell for sure. From the discussion on this forum I understand there are several named varieties of this species.  So I'll be patient. All of these need repotting this year!

They look like 'argentea' instead.

Brad: That's certainly a possibility. When any of us order seeds from RPS, we have to assume their suppliers are accurate about the identity (species and variety) of the seed sources. Will be interesting to see what develops here.
