Close Up Color

Recommended Posts

I hope Gileno doesn't mind me stealing a page out of his play book.

Twenty years ago, the only colors "available" on palms were shades of green and blue. Things sure have changed.

Advance warning---These are not easy. But I hope you enjoy the pics none the less

First clue, these are all the same genus.

Matt in SD

Tough.  Clearly all Dypsis (big surprise!).

#1 Dypsis decipiens

#2 Dypsis pinnatifrons (aka Neophloga sp. Pink Crownshaft)

#3 Dypsis onilahensis?

#4 Dypsis saintlucei

#5 Dypsis decipiens (super decipiens?)

#6 Don't have a clue

#7 Dypsis big curly

#8 Dypsis psammophila

I'm pretty sure about #2 and #3, the others are probably wrong.

Matt

(note:  I just edited because I realized I skipped #6)

Well, not too many brave souls for this quiz. I personally don't do well on these, so I understand.

Matt in SD came out of the blocks fast with the first four identified correctly. But that was all. MattyB went 0 for 3. Matty, at the very least you should of had #2  :) And Tim got #5.

Here's a run down with names and pics of the whole plant for reference.

#1 D. decipiens

#2 Gileno's new favorite. D. 'pink crownshaft' or whatever. Enduring full Hawaiian sun, I might add.

#6 Trick question. Nobody knows. A Dypsis, but nobody that's seen pics or the plant in person has offered a guess.

Dang, I suck!  In my defense, I knew 1, 2 & 4 but didn't want to repeat Matt's guesses because I knew he had already got them correct.  So, in reality I was the brave one going out on a limb, risking the embarrasment of a wrong guess, sticking my neck out to try....that's worth all the points in the world!!!!! I WIN!!!!!!!ding ding ding....dong.....what?
