Planting Chrsitmas Palm Seeds

Recommended Posts

So I planted my Christmas Palm seeds in a mixture of different soils, all are rich in nutrients. The only thing that concerned me about the whole process is that at the end I filled the pot up with water and was expecting some to come out of the bottom holes. Insted it sat on top of the soil and very slowly went down, and no water came out of the holes.

Do you have any sand to mix your potting soil with or even a sandy soil mix?

If you don't, then maybe you could come down here and take a sample of our super-sandy soil lol. :P

(Though our soil is actually really, really sandy. Extreme sea level rise would result in higher-elevation yellowish-white sandy beaches here lol. Our palms thrive in it...)

Does anyone know how long these take to sprout? I know it hasn't been that long since I started these, but about when should I expect to see something? They have been on a heat mat too.

They germinate readily given heat, which you say you have. That can take several weeks, maybe months or more (unlike marigolds, palms take their time), so patience is required. Also, most species send down long radicles first before first leaves come up but as you can't see underground you have no idea exactly when germination takes place.
