Looking to find days of Glory again..or bringing back my GH

Some of you may remember when I got a greenhouse... if not, a link..

The last few posts attest to it falling into disuse... I know it helps, but I think with my purchasing at the time I outgrew it fairly quick... well, to come full circle, I have curtailed my purchases AND seem to be making some headway/progress on keeping the front yard under control, so I was thinking of getting it back up again...

I kept meaning to get a before pic.. but never really happened... BUT this pic is AFTER I pulled out at least 2 trashcan loads of weeds... yes, weeds, the palms that "were" in the pots met their demise a long time back..

Progress is not rapid as when its sunny, even with the panels off the top (removed so the would not blow out during storms) it's too warm for me to stay long, so I generally just work in there when over cast.

I hope to get this cool Dypsis luecomalla in there to speed it up! (Token palm pic)

Bill, in summer you could use some whitewash over the outside of the greenhouse, as they do with the plasticos in Spain.

Good luck with the resurrection!

The only reason my GH doesn't have weeds by the door is because it's on concrete.

Good news I have it ready...kinda. Cleaned up... but I can't find the clips to hold the panels in place... probably swallowed by weeds somewhere. .. But have some on order.. :)

Very cool! I have the same type of greenhouse. Where did you buy those racks? I really need some for mine.

Irrigation will be like last time most likely....by hand.  I have decided since I did this before that just a "little" bit warmer than outside will help a lot, so not going to seal tight. May even leave a panel or two off on top.

The racks are simple, I just bought one of those plastic 4 or 5 shelving units at HD and put separately.

Congratulations Bill! As a former owner of two backyard greenhouses for a total of 400 square feet I can attest that keeping the temperature low enough in coastal Virginia summers was trickier than keeping them 50 or above in the winter.

Smaller greenhouses are harder to regulate temperature than larger ones I understand.

And they are never big enough!

Circulation seems super important and I ran fans 24/7 365 days a year plus vents roof and sides with solar wax cylinders to open and close automatically. Shade cloth is easy and helps greatly too.

Of course now (while I plant like crazy) I cheat, with just shade houses which are $99 on sale car canopies (about 10x20 each) with shade cloth top and sides and plastic for the floors. One for palms and one for everything else. Of course you have to move to the tropics to make this work well accepting hurricanes... Land is mighty cheap in the mountains of PR these days.

Enjoy your new growing space!
